Federico II of Svevia

A tradition of my country is to organize a procession dedicated to king Federico in which the whole population is involved according to represent his arrival in my country. for this reason in this article I will tell a small part of his life in English.

When Innocent II died he became Pope Honorius III, who in 1220 crowned Frederick Emperor with the name of Frederick II. Federico was

a highly cultivated man and also a skilled politician: he reorganized the State, thanks to numerous officials, took measures to limit the privileges of the nobility and the clergy and to develop the economy. In Puglia he also built numerous castles, among which: the castle of Trani is one of the most beautiful examples of fortifications erected by Frederick II. It rises a short distance from the Cathedral of Trani, on the seashore, in the middle of a roadstead whose shallow waters were always an excellent defense both from the fury of the waves and from any attacks on that front, of the Norman era is the Castle of Barletta, whose name appears for the first time in a document dating back to 1202, the Bari Castle, the so-called Castello Svevo, is the most obvious example of the greatness of the city, The Swabian-Norman period did not only contribute to strengthening the city, but also to enrich them from a purely artistic-religious point of view. It is the example of some of the wonderful Apulian Cathedrals that, built between the 11th and 13th centuries, are appreciated by the local stone, combined with sumptuous decorations that at the same time stand out and relate to the simplicity of the wall hangings today what remains in that of Monte Sant’Angelo is only a ruin, since the fortress desired by the bishop of Benevento, Orso I, and built between 837 and 838 The castle of Gravina in Puglia is part of those few exceptions that are isolated from the works of restructuring that characterize most of the castles in the Swabian castle network and which are established as a new structure, together with Castel del Monte, the castles of Lucera and the domus of Foggia. In 1250 Federico died.
